Trials of the Golden Bugs is a level 50 quest given by the Vagabond at Sapphire Ridge - Tranquil Bamboo. It consists of four sub-quests, which can be completed in any order and are detailed in the following sections. Completion of this quest is required to progress in the story.

Tasks

  1. Finish the 4 trials in Sapphire Ridge
  2. Report back to the Vagabond in Tranquil Bamboo
  3. Go to the Old Dojo north-east of Sapphire Ridge
  4. Survive the surprise attack by the beetles.
    • You must defeat three rounds of them. The first one has two Sun Beetles, the second one two Moon Beetles, and the last one two Moon Beetles and one Sun Beetle.
  5. Talk to the Vagabond and face the guardian in the Old Dojo
  6. Collect the Meteor Shade behind the Old Dojo

Obtaining the Meteor Shade unlocks Rhombus Square, the upper section of Sapphire Ridge and the Ring of Spiders challenge at Sapphire Ridge - Nesting Grounds. At this point, Emilie notices that the last dungeon race was in the Grand Krys'kajo and reveals the final results, without counting the tutorial dungeon. She has different dialogue depending on them.

Completion Message
You've overcome all trials put in front of you and bested even the Vagabond himself who turned out to be the final trial. As a reward you received the Meteor Shade!

Trial of Vigor

Trial of Vigor is a level 50 quest that is a sub-quest of Trials of the Golden Bugs.

Tasks

  1. Finish the Trial of Vigor in Sapphire Ridge - Nesting Grounds
    • A Golden Beetle will be waiting for you there. Talk to her to start the trial, which consists of surviving a two-minute long onslaught of Aranetardas.
Completion Message
You have passed the Trial of Vigor and received a Golden Bug as token of your achievement.

Trial of Patience

Trial of Patience is a level 50 quest that is a sub-quest of Trials of the Golden Bugs.

Tasks

  1. Finish the Trial of Patience in Sapphire Ridge - Flower Lake
    • The Golden Beetle will explain the rules and allow you to start the trial. You have to hit the switch with a Ball after the Bamboo Fountain hits the rock 12 times. See Bamboo Fountain for more information.

You have passed the Trial of Patience and received a Golden Bug as token of your achievement.

Trial of Agility

Trial of Agility is a level 50 quest that is a sub-quest of Trials of the Golden Bugs.

Tasks

  1. Finish the Trial of Agility in Sapphire Ridge - Carved Pathway
    • Pursue a Golden Beetle through most of Sapphire Ridge. When it runs away, it can create fake copies of itself to waste your time and anger nearby enemies.

Trial of Insight

Trial of Insight is a level 50 quest that is a sub-quest of Trials of the Golden Bugs.

Tasks

  1. Finish the Trial of Insight in Sapphire Ridge - Bamboo Thicket
    • Catch the runaway Golden Beetle within a minute inside of a bamboo maze. It will run away every time you catch it until it meets a dead end, where it will wait until it is found again. You can chase it while it runs because it gives away its position by shaking the leaves in its path.
